COVID-19 Update: Supreme Court of British Columbia Suspension Period Extended to May 29

Previously, all civil matters scheduled between March 19, 2020 and May 1, 2020 were adjourned until further notice. However, effective April 16, the Supreme Court of British Columbia has extended the suspension period at all of its locations until May 29, 2020.

This automatic adjournment extends to all trials, conferences, chambers applications, and other hearings currently scheduled for hearing on or before May 29, 2020. All jury selections are cancelled up to and including July 3, 2020.

All filing and service deadlines under the Supreme Court Civil Rules are also suspended until May 29, 2020. However, the Suspension Period on limitation periods does not apply those established under the Builders Lien Act and Division 5 of Part 5 of the Strata Property Act.

We expect this situation to continue to evolve and as such the suspension period may be further extended. EKB will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates on the suspension period.
