Community Involvement

EKB has been committed to giving back to the community since its inception and its tradition of leadership extends beyond the firm and the legal community. Our lawyers and staff believe in serving their communities and many volunteer considerable time to support a variety of pro bono associations, community groups, charitable organizations, and religious boards.

Access to legal services is out of reach for many in our society. EKB believes that our commitment to providing sound legal advice extends beyond the boardroom and into the community in which we work and live. EKB’s commitment to our community extends to our lawyers and staff, a number of whom have devoted their free time volunteering for Access Pro Bono, People’s Law School, Justice Education Society, and other organizations.

Charitable Giving & Volunteerism

EKB’s lawyers and staff also serve our community by volunteering for various community groups, churches, and charitable organizations.

Greensleeves Place of Safety

Greensleeves Place of Safety is a home which provides for the care of approximately 40 abandoned and abused children in East London, South Africa. The home is run by a couple who use their own funds to provide for the children with no support from the government and only funds received from organizations and volunteers.

For the past three years EKB has held fundraising events to support the home. Everyone at the firm has been incredibly generous in their support and participation in these events to ensure that a cheque is sent at Christmas each year.

Other organizations with whom our EKB team members volunteer include:

  • Royal Canadian Legion Branch 263
  • Ladies Auxiliary
  • Thrift Store Group
  • Canada Blood Services
  • Pacific Academy
  • Arthritis Society
  • Firehall Art Centre
  • WISH Drop In Centre
  • Coaching and management of various youth athletic teams
  • Participation in various youth arts groups including dance
