On March 25, 2020, the Federal Government of Canada revealed the details of the new Canada Emergency Response Benefit (“CERB”) which replaced the previously announced Emergency Care Benefit and the Emergency Support Benefit.
CERB provides a taxable benefit of $2,000.00 a month for those impacted by COVID-19. Previously, eligible applicants were permitted to receive $2,000 every four weeks for a total of 16 weeks. However, on June 16, 2020, the Federal Government announced that CERB payments would be extended for a further two months as the economy continues to recover from the downturn caused by COVID-19.
