How to Apply

EKB seeks well-rounded students with strong academic records, extra-curricular experience, and personal qualities that likely make them compatible with other members of the firm.

EKB normally hires two summer articling students each year to bring fresh talent, new perspectives, and enthusiasm for the law. When the students complete their summer articles and full articles, EKB hopes to hire these promising legal professionals as associates.

Our firm typically hires our articling student complement from our summer student class and does not typically participate in the articling student recruitment process.

Articling Application Process

If you are interested in applying to our 2L summer articling program, please submit your completed application through the viLaw Portal and address your application to David E. Turner, Partner.

Your application should include a cover letter, a complete résumé, copies of all official transcripts from law school and undergrad, as well as a list of anticipated upper year courses. Please note that writing samples and reference letters are not required.

All of our recruitment procedures are carried out in accordance with the guidelines established by the Vancouver Bar Association and the Law Society of British Columbia. For dates and more information, please see the Vancouver Bar Association website.

Application Tips

Applying for an articling position is different from other professions. There are several required components to the application and interview process. For your convenience, we have provided suggested guidelines below to help you prepare your application for EKB.

A cover letter is an important part of your articling application. We gain our first impression of you based on how well you communicate your level of professionalism. Both your cover letter and résumé should work as a complete marketing package. In particular, your cover letter should:

  • specify the position you are applying for
  • indicate why you are interested in working at EKB;
  • indicate any practice areas you may be interested in; and
  • describe any attributes or previous work experience that will help you to succeed at EKB.

We are currently accepting applications for 2025 summer articling students. We are not accepting applications for full articles for the 2024-2025 articling year.
