Odd Society Spirits is a pioneering craft distillery located in Vancouver’s burgeoning brewery and distillery district. A family enterprise, founder Gordon Karp and his spouse and business partner Miriam Karp are at the forefront of the British Columbia craft distilling movement.
A successful technical writer, Gordon decided in 2009 to change careers and pursue his lifelong interest in distilling, relocating with his family from Vancouver to Edinburgh, Scotland to obtain his MSc in brewing and distilling from Heriot-Watt University. Returning to Vancouver, Gordon and Miriam established Odd Society Spirits. Designated as a craft distillery under British Columbia liquor legislation, Odd Society uses only BC-grown grains in the distilling process and conducts all fermentation and distillation on-site using traditional methods. Odd Society has received international recognition for its family of spirits, including gold and silver medals at the San Francisco International Spirits Competition. EKB is proud to be part of Odd Society’s success.
EKB worked with Gordon and Miriam from the initial start-up phase, advising them on corporate structuring and investment, the negotiation and preparation of the commercial lease for their distillery location, financing matters, other real estate issues, commercial contracts, and the many other legal issues relating to their business. EKB has also advised Odd Society Spirits throughout in navigating the complex and shifting regulatory landscape in which the liquor industry operates.
