Diversity and Inclusivity

EKB is committed to providing an equitable, diverse, and inclusive workplace for all.  These values allow us to recruit, develop, and retain the highest quality of professionals.

Diversity and inclusivity are the cornerstones of our business. By drawing from a wide array of perspectives, we better understand, anticipate, and fulfill our clients’ needs.

Diversity and Inclusivity Committee

EKB’s Diversity and Inclusivity Committee champions our commitment to diversity and inclusivity at a day-to-day level. These values are integrated into our strategic direction and can be seen through our:

  • Open communication policy
  • Flexible working time arrangement
  • Free counseling services
  • Generous maternity and paternity policy for associates and partners
  • Employee training

Community Associations

Many of our lawyers are involved with organizations that look to grow a more inclusive and diverse community, such as:

  • The Association of South Asian Professionals of BC
  • The South Asian Bar Association of BC
  • The CBA WLF Mentoring Program
  • First-Generation Network
  • Jewish Family Services
  • People’s Law School
  • MOSAIC

EKB actively supports its lawyers in engaging any organization they believe can further diversity and inclusivity at the workplace and in the legal profession.

Scholarships

EKB supports a range of initiatives, including providing entrance scholarships to JD students. We hope that these entrance scholarships will contribute to promoting diversity and inclusivity within the legal profession. Made on the recommendation of faculty, they are not restricted to any particular practice area and do not have any other barriers to entry. Each award is worth $2000 per year for a minimum of 5 years. EKB is the proud donor for the following awards:

  • The Edwards, Kenny & Bray Award for Black, Indigenous and People of Colour Students in Law Award (University of Victoria)
  • The Edwards, Kenny & Bray Award for Future Indigenous Lawyers (Thompson Rivers University)
