Hon. John C. Bouck - 1931 - 2010

We are deeply saddened by the death of the Hon. John C. Bouck, one of the founding partners of our firm.

John and Jack Edwards originally formed Bouck Edwards in 1965. John practiced civil litigation with us until February of 1974 (the firm was by then known as Bouck, Edwards, Kenny & Bray), when he was appointed as a judge of the Supreme Court of British Columbia – he sat as a trial judge in Vancouver until 1996.

John was the author and co-author of numerous articles and several books – he is probably best known for co-authoring “British Columbia Annual Practice” (universally known as the White Book).

John was always extremely generous with his time, particularly when provided with an opportunity to speak about his passion for reforming the Canadian justice system. In his 2006 book, “Exploding the Myths: An Insider's Look at Canada’s Justice Systems”, John examined how Canada’s legal systems work, what he believed was wrong with them, and how they could be fixed.

John was a former RCAF jet fighter pilot and a civilian pilot – his flying exploits in the firm’s early days are legendary.

Our condolences go out to his family and our sympathies to his many colleagues and friends.

We will miss him.
